The Royal Dublin Society is a historic venue that caters for the prestigious Dublin Horse Show as well acting as the home grounds for Leinster Rugby. As a design competition entry, Hoban Design developed a proposal to expand the venue to a capacity of 25,000 spectators.
The concept was to create an iconic and contemporary new stand, the design of which, would facilitate the aspirations and dynamism of Leinster Rugby whilst reinforcing the ethos of the RDS. A key touchstone to the design is the Harp, the ancient symbol of the province of Leinster and the crest of Leinster Rugby.
The Harp combines graceful organic curves in its robust frame with interconnecting tensile ‘Harp Strings’, symbolically representing Passion, Culture and Creative Arts. As a result of this proposal, Hoban Design received a commendation for this entry.
